Square Pegs

Oh my goodness. I love my friend Shannon. She's cool. She listens to cool music. It's not for everybody, but if you're willing to put aside your preconceived notions of what kind of music you think you like, I bet you'll find something to like in The Square Peg Alliance. It's a group of 13 artists who write for themselves and for people who appreciate good music, not for some corporate record label. They promote each others' music through the alliance and they're all friends and often contribute to each others' projects. I'm listening to Behold the Lamb of God by Andrew Peterson lately (yeah, it's a Christmas album, it's awesome though) and I might love Sandra McCracken's stuff. Especially Portadown Station. So cool. Check them out at www.squarepegalliance.com.

Edit: Most of their stuff fits nicely into my recent road-trip music obsession!

Wellll...I'm not trying to be too cool on purpose...it's been hard this summer cause we've always been a first service sunday school second service church family, and I didn't want to completely throw off the schedule, but we'll see what happens next year. I'm actually going to be gone to school before you guys do anything again, otherwise I would probably try to drag some people along next Saturday (I think?)...bug them though, make them come

Yay for Square Pegs!  Actually, I only know much of AP - and those who have contributed to his work on his CDs.  But you're totally right - it's not "normal" music that you would like.  I think I'm going to post on this, but I'll give you a taste right now.  It's not the beat that really gets you, but the lyrics.  Once the lyrics hit, the beats then hit you, not vice versa (like most music).  But the lyrics can be contemplated for a long time, and they mean something different each time you hear it...kind of like Scripture...it's living and active.
